Dear girls and boys,
Have you ever heard the expression "Time flies"? It means that time is going by very quickly. That's how I feel that this last few weeks has been! Before you know it, you will be stepping into your first grade classroom! I know that your teachers are so excited to finally meet you. I talked with them about you today as a matter of fact. It is less than three weeks until open house at Periwinkle.
I spent a few days this week in my classroom. It is quite a mess! I am making some changes and I hope you will stop in to see them and me during open house. I have a few more quick trips coming up before school starts. Are you going anywhere fun, or have you gone somewhere? It's nice to have time at home also.
I miss you all and think about you a lot!
Love, Mrs. Prowse

Nebraska
Hello there Sweet Peas!
I'm sorry I missed writing last week, but I was in Nebraska visiting my family. I was born in Nebraska so long ago. My dad and lots of other relatives live there including my sister and two brothers. It is so nice to see them, but it is hard to say goodbye. I will miss them until I visit again next summer. My dad has been ill and had to have a surgery in June, so it was especially good to see him.
The weather in Nebraska is different from Oregon. The air has a lot of moisture called humidity, and it feels heavy to breathe in. Also it rained one day, and it rains so hard that you get soaked just going from the house to the car in the driveway! There were also a few days of thunder and lightening. It was not as bad as other years when it feels like the whole house is shaking. It scares me a little!
I hope you are enjoying your time away from school. I am excited that stores have school supplies out. I have been shopping the sales, getting stocked up for next year! Have a good week!

Camping
Hello my friends!
Last weekend Mr. Prowse, the dogs, and I went camping with a lot of friends at a place called Fort Stevens. Maybe you have been there before? It is right on the coast and there are a lot of fun things to do there. Both Cruzer and Lucy love the beach! They run around and around and around! Lucy loves to dig holes and she puts her nose down deep sniffing all the different smells. When she lifts her head I see that her nose is covered with wet sand and I don't know how she can breathe! So silly.
Almost all of our friends also had a dog or two. We all drove down onto the beach and parked where there were no other people nearby. There were nine dogs in all and all had a blast running around together. Except Lucy. Being much smaller than the others she was afraid the others would hurt her. There was a Great Dane puppy that wanted to play with Lucy but Lucy growled and barked at him and it scared the puppy even though the puppy was much larger.
I would love to hear any of your summer stories! Love, Mrs. Prowse :)

Dear boys and girls,
This week I read a few chapter books, just for fun. I can get very lost in a good book and pretty soon the whole day is gone! Have you been reading anything fun? I know they have some fun summer activities at the Albany public library. Here's a quiz...do you know why I used a capital A in Albany?
When I take Cruzer for walks he likes to try to pull me where he wants to go. Doesn't he know I am the boss?? I went to the pet store to buy him a harness to help stop him from pulling. I'm looking forward to taking him for a walk tonight to see if it helps him stop pulling. He is very strong.
I hope everyone has a very happy and safe 4th of July!

What Day Is It?
Hi there my first grade friends!
Being on vacation has made me lose track of the days! I just realized that today is Saturday and I missed writing to you yesterday. I hope you are having a lot of fun on summer vacation! I spent a few extra days cleaning up and organizing the classroom. Everything was moved off the carpet so the machines could clean it really well. The classroom looks so different empty. This just made me think of the Mrs. Wishy Washy book, The Scrubbing Machine, ha, ha!
Have you done a little bit of your summer homework yet? Try not to think of this as something you have to do, but instead take pride in keeping your skills fresh in your mind! This way you will be ready to jump into first grade and take off running! That's a funny saying. It means that you will be ready to learn new things in first grade.
I had some worry this past week as my dad had to have surgery and be in the hospital for a week, but he is recovering well and he got to go home yesterday!
My biggest excitement so far is that I bought some new boxes for books in the classroom. It made me very happy to find these!
I miss you all!
